Jerez, 1 May: Qualifying for the Bwin Grand Prix of Jerez was run in sunny conditions today with ambience temperature of 26°C (49 degrees on the asphalt). Working with his crew to find the right machine balance for the varied nature of Jerez track where he experienced a positive 4th final place in 2009, LCR Honda MotoGP rider Randy de Puniet was seventh in this morning second free session and experienced a fall as he lost the front of his RC212V in Turn 10, but he returned quickly to set a best lap of 1’40.092.
In this afternoon 60-minute qualifying the Frenchman set a best lap time of 1’39.591 on lap 19 of 25 just eight hundredths off the front row as he got more comfortable at the 4.423 km track. De Puniet made solid progress and he is pleased with the adjustments of his Honda machinery in preparation for tomorrows second round of the season after the postponement of the Japanese GP. The 27-lap race will get underway at 14:00 local time with Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Stoner on the front row.

De Puniet: “I am very happy because it has been a very good qualifying session. I am just 8 hundredths off the front row and the adjustments we have made on the bike work well especially on race trim. This afternoon we concentrated to obtain the second row and we are delighted with this result as we are the first independent team on the grid for the second time after Qatar GP. My target is to keep this placement in tomorrows race to repeat the positive result we gained in Qatar but I know it won’t be so easy”.
